Tengyun Zhang (She/They) is a Ph.D. student, focusing on modern Chinese religious and cultural history. After earning a degree in English Literature and Philosophy from Nankai University, emphasizing Song Dynasty Chan Buddhism and Neo-Confucianism, she pursued a Master's in East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her master's work centered on the cultural history of Chinese Buddhism from the late Qing period to 1949, a theme that continues to shape her research. Additionally, Tengyun explores Japanese Shin Buddhism, Buddhist poetry, and 20th-century Chinese prison literature. In her leisure time, she enjoys horror movies, fiction writing, and TRPG games.
