It was the start of my research into Meiji immigration, which eventually led me to my dissertation (2014, Louisiana State University). My research is a transnational look at Nisei who grew up in Los Angeles prior to World War II. I am a post-doctoral scholar but will convert to Assistant Professor beginning next academic year.
