The Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Arizona offers programs leading to the Master of Arts (M.A.) and the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees with majors in East Asian Studies. Graduate training in East Asian Studies affords students important opportunities for careers in teaching, international business, international law, government and diplomatic service, and journalism, among others.
Instruction is offered in a number of disciplines, including Chinese and Japanese culture, anthropology, history, linguistics, literature, religion, gender studies, and Asian-American studies.
Concentrations for incoming graduate students change from year to year, depending on faculty availability and other circumstances. Please note that prospective Ph.D. students should communicate with their intended faculty advisor before applying, to make sure whether their specific research interests can be accommodated.
For both domestic and international applicants, the application deadline is January 15th.
