Eating Right Everywhere: Food and Health in Global Perspective

Workshop and Symposium at the University of Arizona

What should we eat? Dietary choice has preoccupied and perplexed societies worldwide—so devilishly simple and confoundingly involved at once. Join us for a day of presentations and discussion by prominent food studies scholars as we seek to reimagine healthful consumption in a global, humanistic framework.

Featuring contributions from historians, anthropologists, sociologists, and nutritionists, this symposium will take us around the globe: from the tables and narratives of African diaspora to Japan’s inner world of microbial fermentation; from the cookbooks of late-colonial Mexico to the politics of vegetarianism; from inside US prison dietary programs to the healing foods of Cambodia, and much more. We hope you will join us as we ask together: is there such a thing as ‘eating right everywhere’?

Free and open to the public; Lunch provided
