Yanhua Zhou is currently a PhD student focusing on Chinese contemporary art with a special interest in socially engaged art of Contemporary China. She graduated from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute (China) and obtained both of her BA and MA in Fine Arts. After her graduation from SCFAI,she was awarded a scholarship from China Scholarship Council(CSC)and achieved her second master in art history from the University of St Andrews (UK). In 2016, she got her first PhD degree in Philosophy from Southwest University (China). Now she is also a faculty of Sichuan Fine Art Institute.
Her research interests embrace Western modern and contemporary art and critical theory since the 1960s,especially focusing on Minimaliam and phenomenology, socially engaged art theory and Chinese contemporary art history and practice. She published several papers in Art Observation, Art China, Culture Studies, Chinese Sculpture, Canadian Social Science, etc., and did paper presentations at several conferences in United States, Japan and China. She has been involved in a socially engaged art project named "Yangdeng Cooperatives" in southwest of China as an art critic as well as an academic researcher since 2012.
