Miki Murakami is a Ph.D. student in Japanese Linguistics. She received her MA in Japanese Linguistics from Portland State University, OR., and a BA in Fine Arts from Osaka College of Music. Her research interests include sociolinguistics, ethnography of communication, interlanguage pragmatics with a focus on speech acts and institutional talk. Prior to coming to the University of Arizona, she has taught Japanese at Portland State University, OR., Franklin & Marshall College, PA., Japan Center for Michigan Universities (Summer) in Shiga, Japan, and Middlebury Summer Language School.
