Keiko Shimizu is currently a MA student in the East Asian Department. As an undergraduate student at Sophia University, Keiko majored in Japanese Studies, placing her focus on Japanese mass media and religion. After she got her B.A., she went on to get her Master's degree in TESOL at Soka University of America, which was then located in Calabasas, CA (currently located in Aliso Viejo, CA). Upon earning her MA in TESOL, Keiko spent a large sum of years teaching English to students of various ages and levels in Tokyo, Japan. In fact, throughout her career as an English instructor, she taught at 4 different universities, 1 college, 1 high school and 2 elementary schools. She is now returning to her studies and getting yet another MA, this time concentrating on Japanese literature and religion. She is an educator at heart who has a broad range of interests and a strong desire to learn, experience and grow for the sake of her future students and, of course, for herself. After she successfully earns her second Master's degree, Keiko wishes to pursue a PhD in order to further deepen her understanding of Japan.
