Dongchen Hou is originally from Shandong Province, China. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate majoring in Chinese Anthropology and minoring in Chinese Sociolinguistics and Chinese Literature. She received her B.A. in Chinese Linguistics from Xiamen University and her M.A. in Comparative Literature and World Literature from Beijing Normal University. Her major research interests include culture study on Chinese writing, media study, translingual research, and digital humanities on human-machine interactions in the act of writing. Her dissertation titled "From Brush Tips to Machine Arms: Decoding Chinese Writing in the Nexus of Embodied Experiences, Technics, and Authorship."
