The University of Arizona is where my dream began. My education in the Humanities prepared me to be a language educator and a scholarly researcher in Japanese language and linguistics. My doctoral dissertation, titled “Japanese Language Teacher Identities in Changing Contexts” was completed with guidance from professors from both East Asian Studies and English Departments. My committee members, Dr. Mariko Karatsu, Dr. Hayriye Kayi-Aydar and Dr. Wenhao Diao, who served as my role models in both teaching and research, supported me in pursuing my academic career as a tenure-track assistant professor of Japanese.
